The start of the fishing season for hucho in Slovenia is always slow. The fish is not yet active due to the high temperatures, and usually the rivers are still high. However, this is not entirely true for small rivers such as Gradaščica. It's been a pretty good start to the season there. The water level was just right and the fish was active. Already after the first couple of casts, the first hucho take the fly. It was about 65 cm in size. We must not forget that in smaller rivers there are not such large specimens as, for example, in the Sava River, but even here you can find some over 100 cm. Mostly after about 3 hours of tossing, my friend got another hucho of similar size. For me, fishing was more of a mess hahahahah. About five bites and not a single one stayed on, even a hucho of about a meter long felt off. What makes me most happy about this river is that you can see half of the hucho you catch before you cast.
It's also a bit of sight fishing for hucho.
For all those who want a good fishing experience at the beginning of the season, I suggest a Gradaščica river.
