Bad start to the flyfishing season

I started this year really badly and I think it’s necessary to write something about bad days and not just when we brag about something. Every year at the beginning of the season I take advantage of the lack of overgrowth on two rivers that are very dear to my heart and go flyfishing. The first river I visited is in the coastal region and the second is in the heart of Slovenia in the Ljubljana Marshes. Both rivers are very interesting for flyfishing and extremely demanding for it, and I really like them. But when you have such bad two days, you get a little resentful…. hehe.

I fished on the coastal river for several hours without a bite and then boom, boom, boom… 5 bites and between them two large brown trout but they all fell off. I don’t know why it wasn’t a bad hook, I did everything as usual but I don’t know…

So I ended up without a fish…

Two days later, I walked for 6 hours on a calm river in the middle of the marsh except for a couple of chubs without a catch, and then in a narrow pool before the spillway I noticed a huge brown trout. I noticed that it was feeding. It was really picky so I had to change quite a few flies and I’m also bad with wet flies. So I dipped my parachute brown mayfly and…. Bam! Perfect set and I said to myself this is it this is the fish I’ve been waiting for. It was 60+ brown trout which is a good number in fly fishing. Then the thought came to my head what if I lose that too and in the same second the joy ended… so I ended the day. This has never happened to me in two days without a fish.

As with everything, when you’re going well it’s great but when you do more than 10km in two days and no fish can be screwed up.
