Exploring new water

I got the desire to explore new waters again, so I made a plan at home where I would fish and set a fishing date. I “carefully” studied the map of the fishing area and marked promising spots on Google Maps. On the day of fishing, which started at four in the morning, I set the first point where I would start. The drive there took one hour and forty minutes, with me falling asleep at a rest area for ten minutes halfway through. Oh, I set off for the Tagliamento River in Italy.

When I got to the first point, I parked in a nice spot, got ready and went to the river, which is absolutely beautiful. In the first pool under the waterfall, I already caught a fish, a beautiful brown trout. When I was passing by, I thought I was fishing on the Tagliamento River, but I was really on the Fella River. Well, that’s the first thing that can happen to you. This is the product of poor planning. However, I caught two fish on the river, one of which was a marble trout. The river was very flat so you had to walk a few hundred meters between pools where there were not all fish everywhere. In each pool, maximum one trout. On the Fella River I walked and fished a little for about 4 hours and did about 5 kilometers.

I continued flyfishing on the Tagliamento River, where I also mostly walked and saw some fish. It got really hot so I regretted not going wet wading. I had wet wading shoes with me but I told myself that I might get cold when I was in the water. In the end, I was only in the water when I waded across. Basically, one more thing that I have to change next time. And the last thing that would be changed is that you go to the location for at least two days. Because 8-10 hours of flyfishing is simply not enough to get to know a part of the water well. After all, exploring is the best part of flyfishing, at least for me.

Italy never disappoints, but I haven’t seen everything in Slovenia yet.
